EPOXY / URETHANE CASTING PLATEN

(Reduce your cost by increasing throughput.....)

A proven design being made available, for the first time, to our customers casting medium to high volume, small to medium size components.

The casting platen was developed by our company in 1998 to partially automate the casting process using our fast setting epoxy and polyurethane systems. It supports and maintains the moulds at the desired temperatures, simplifies insert assembly and reduces operator work load. The design is excellent, with very few moving parts, requiring next to no maintenance.

Maximum cycle times are obtained by employing fast setting (gelling) Epoxy or Polyurethane materials such as our CLR 1331 / CLH 6010 epoxy system. Based on our experience, the platen itself provides the following benefits:

  • Increased output

  • Reduced labour cost

  • Eliminates having to assemble / disassemble moulds for each pour

  • Eliminates having to pre-heat tools in ovens

  • Even, constant clamping pressure

  • Moulds can be pressurized during the gelling cycle using automated dispense equipment

  • Accommodate hand pour or Automated Mix/Dispense equipment

  • Minimize / eliminate temperature zoning in the moulds

  • Reduced electricity costs

  • Ability to use several tools at the same time (depending on size)

  • Easy to move around to different locations.

It is easy to eliminate problems related to heat zoning which is always a key factor in the casting process.

View Video "Manually Casting Components using the Platen "

The video demonstrates how the Platen functions in a "manual pour" operation where the resin/hardener is mixed by hand, the mix is de-aired and poured into the mould manually. The "manual pour" operation can be greatly improved upon by dispensing product directly into the mould from an automatic  meter/mix/dispense machine. Automated dispense would allow many moulds to be filled and de-moulded very quickly by alternating the fill and de-mould cycles.
