FIGHTER®

(Patent Pending)

Intumescing Compound for the Protection of Wood Structures

Each year, Grass and Brush fires frequently damage wood structures located in remote areas, often inaccessible by local fire departments.  Although these fires move very quickly, they often ignite wood structures, such as electric utility and telephone poles, located in their path.

Our Blaze Fighter® intumescing compound was specifically developed to protect wood utility poles and other wood structures against damage by grass and brush fires. The best protection is obtained by applying the compound well ahead of time in areas where the potential for brush fires exist. Because the product was designed to provide effective protection in a short period of time after application, it is also suitable for use in emergency situations.

The product is suitable for application to:

  • Electric Utility Poles

  • Telephone Poles

  • Wood Fences

  • All types of wood structures

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can the product be re-applied over previous coating which has been exposed to fire?

  • The product may be re-applied after exposure to fire provided that the application surface is properly prepared. Care must be taken to remove any charred or contaminated material and loose debris with a wire brush. The surface must be free of dust before re-application.

What is the shelf life of the product?

  • The typical shelf life of the product in unopened, sealed cartridges is 1 year from the date of shipment.

How long does the protection last?

  • Based on the chemistry, we project solid protection for a minimum of 5 years. The Blaze Fighter® has been under test for 2 years without any deterioration in performance.

How many burn cycles is the protection good for?

  • Based on our internal testing, a burn only affects the top layer of the coating however, to be on the safe side, we recommend re-application after every burn.

How high, from the ground up, does the pole need to be protected?

  • We recommend coverage from 2" below grade level to 4' - 5' high. It is highly recommended that the surrounding area is cleared from combustible overhang vegetation or else protection is applied at least 12" higher than highest combustible overhang near the pole.

How many cartridges are required to cover 1 pole?

  • Depending on the pole diameter, applied carefully to obtain an even layer, one full cartridge should be sufficient for one pole, up to 4' high. This type of protection is recommended for 1 burn only.

How do we clean up accidental spillage?

  • Liquid material may be cleaned up, wearing the recommended protective gloves, using a disposable rag. Accidental spillage on tools may also be cleaned off in this manner. A more thorough cleaning may be achieved using our CLA 8030 cleanup solvent which is available for purchase.

Are there any hazards associated with overspray?

  • It is recommended that the product is applied in a sheltered area or when the winds are calm to minimize any overspray.

  • Careful application minimizes overspray. Any over sprayed material, dispensed through the nozzle, is properly mixed and will solidify in a very short period of time. Once solidified, it becomes totally inert and will not effect the surrounding vegetation.

Are there any VOC to be concerned with?

  • The product has been tested according to EPA test method 24 and contains no VOC .

How do we dispose unwanted liquid material?

  • The easiest way to dispose product is to allow it to solidify. The solid material is totally inert and safe to dispose in regular waste. Dispensing the product, through the static mix head, into a container, will allow it to solidify for disposal.

  • Liquid materials must be disposed in accordance with local regulations.

What are the recommended application conditions?

  • The recommended minimum application temperature is 50C (410F). Clean and dry surface are ideal. Do not apply to water saturated surfaces.

Is the material harmful to animals and/or wildlife?

  • Although it is strongly recommended that animals are kept away from the coated structures, the fully cured (solidified) product is inert and will not effect animals if ingested. Precautions should be taken to prevent animals from ingesting the liquid material before it solidifies.
